Yarn Along

I love reading and knitting...  if I could do both at the same time I might be in heaven.  But alas, for now the best I can do is post about them together :)  And check out what else is up over at small things
I'm working away on the hiking scarf for my mom.  I'm really pleased with how it's turning out but not gonna share much on account of it being a gift.  And that they are inherently a little blah, lovely but not too exciting.  Which also is killing me in accomplishing much.  Such short rows, only 42 stitches, but yet so slow going!  Maybe because I have to keep putting it down to take care of other things...

I finished Signs of Life over the weekend.  DH had my next planned read with him though so I couldn't start that.  Instead I got into A Little History of Canada by H.V. Nelles.  We've lived here nearly three years and I really don't know much about Canadian history beyond Leif Eriksson, Henry Hudson, French for a while, then British, and now...  It's really interesting to learn about history that is so close to U.S. history and yet so different.  It's hard for me to say more about it.  It's natioanl history amusingly told.  Nelles makes great use of language - I'm a sucker for big words and interesting words.

And just to keep reading from being predictable I got a notice that an e-book I had put a hold on from the library was available.  :)  So I just finished Plain Wisdom by Cindy Woodsmall and Miriam Flaud.  (That Vonnegut portrait on my nook is just the screensaver not anything I'm reading.)  The authors are friends, one Amish and one "English" (non-Amish) and the book is almost a converstation between the two about their lives, both the differences and similarites.  That makes it fit my ideal of a good Mama read - short bits so I don't get lost when I have to put it down :)

Your cables are looking great. The Canadian history sounds interesting. Plain Wisdom sounds like a great read. Certainly sounds like something I'd enjoy. Jacinta

Thanks so much for stopping by last week. I have been snowed under, hence no yarn along for me today and I am only now returning the visit, but glad to have caught your yarn along... Plain Wisdom sounds like a gem... I'm going to check that out. Love the sneaky peak of cable there. Can't wait to see the finished article. (No pressure... ahem!)

I love your cables -- I think it's looking fantastic.

I'm going to have to add Plain Wisdom to my "Need to Read" list! Thanks for the book suggestion.

Those are such pretty cables! Gift knitting is special but it's not as much fun when you can't share what you're working on.

Maybe I should brush up on my history with that book...I love history but so much got muddled in head during high school lessons where perhaps I wasn't always paying the best attention...

Your scarf is lovely and the stitch definition is perfect. I think scarves take longer because of the short rows.....at least my yellow one seems to take forever.

Good for you for putting in the effort to learn the history of your adopted home. Everyone should be so proactive. And the scarf looks great, cozy, and warm!
