{pretty, happy, funny, real}

Capturing the context of everyday life ~

Every Thursday
at Like Mother, Like Daughter!
{pretty}
I'm not feeling the pretty these days and it makes me a little sad that I have to resort to just taking pictures of what I want to be working on.  But so it goes, that's the time of year and the season of life.  At least the photos make me smile :)  And maybe today I'll get me some time to sew.  And finish those last three rows on Mom's shawl.  A girl can dream.

{happy}
One of the less than pretty things going on right now is the state of chaos with our stuff.  But lookee here!  We got a new bookcase for our vast collection of children's books (it's one of those cubbie hole ones, so I can alphabetize and break them into smaller groups and get them out of the boxes they sadly spend most of their time.  More on that...later?)  So here is the smaller bookcase from our room, moved to the living room to make space for the new and now holding the boys' books that are out in general rotation and some of their toys.  Looks so nice and tidy, doesn't it?  That wont last.  But at least it's contained (or containable) which is a step in the right direction.

(funny}
Game night with wee ones.  They played a simplified game of Uno and Trivial Pursuit.  Questions included things like "Bigger, what state were you born in?"  "Littler, what did we have for dinner?"  and "Bigger, what color are your undies?"  Highly amusing.  Funniest part was the answer to that last one - "James!" meaning they had James from Thomas the Tank Engine on them totally overlooking the fact that James is red.

 {real}
This morning I'm trying out a new recipe for apple-cinnamon baked oatmeal.  I think it's pretty and smells yummy and that all makes me happy.  Reality is that it was my first experiment with "soaking" oatmeal and I'm not sure how that will turn out.  Hopefully I rinsed it will and drained it well and it will taste as yummy as it smells.  We'll know in a few minutes when it's done setting and we can try it out.

I love the pretty quilt blocks. I'm right there with you on the no-time problem. Once everyone goes to sleep, so do I and nothing gets done. Hopefully we'll both get a little time to craft tonight :-)

You found some pretty!
I think that children's books are truly a blessing and a curse. There is never a good way to store them, as they really don't fit anywhere. Your solution is good so far!

Did you soak the oats in milk or water? We soak ours in milk and never have to drain them-- it just soaks right in. The quilt blocks are so pretty.
