Yarn Along

Another week, another yarn along.  :)  Still no finished objects to share, but I'm hopeful I'll have one next week.  Because I'm nearly halfway done with the shawl.  I guess I'm actually making progress because I'm actually working on it nearly every time I sit down.  Usually I am a much more casual knitter, where whatever I'm knitting is just one of the things I work on when I get a chance to sit down.  And in fact I often can't work on my knitting when I sit down if the boys are around - they try to get into it or I have to keep putting it down to deal with their antics.  But this is a simple pattern so no worries about losing my counts or where I am in the pattern.  And I'm feeling the pressure to get this finished and sent off.  And I had no idea when I balled the yarn that it would do this:

Cool, huh?  Rainbow stripes, totally a surprise and totally the Spirit at work on this particular project.  New beginnings and all :)  Makes me really glad I didn't bother take the time to ball the rest of it since now I'll have to make sure it balls in the right direction and that I keep those stripes going decently.  I suppose today I'll have to ball another ball of yarn and hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to start the "lacy" part.  I usually forget to include a link in these posts but I happen to have it up so here is the blog post with the pattern (found through Ravelry, but I don't have that open to link to it ;-)  I really love the simplicity, without being dull.

As for reading, it has mostly been on the back burner for a couple reasons.  First, I'm sitting down to knit not read while working on the shawl.  Second, my book expired :(  I love ebooks from the library because the are so easy to get and because they just expire when they're due so no late fees.  But it also means if you weren't quite done you don't have the option of just hanging onto it for another couple days and finishing up.  (I have a bad habit of looking at library fees as my little way of supporting the library... and should really pay off the $10 that has accumulated on my account over the last couple years.)  Once I finish the shawl I'll be able to download it again and finish.

But in the meantime, off to see what else is being worked on and read with Ginny at small things :)

Love the shawl. I knit one up for my little girl and ever since have been wanting one for myself to keep warm. May have to buy some more yarn.....

The shawl is beautiful and getting to the exciting part is the best of all!! You need to get a book, any book!!

The stripes in your shawl look great. Nice and cheerful.

What a pretty shawl! I can't wait to see it finished. I have been having the same issues as you - when I sit down I knit and don't read very often. And what I am knitting is going very slowly...

I'm thinking I need a shawl. I love the colors of this one.

I'm hoping to finish my project up by next week as well. And I'm also guilty of attributing my library late fees as my way of supporting them. I know I should just take my books back on time and then, you know, actually donate to the library, but still... ;)
