Yarn Along

Books and knits, knits and books.  Mine are a little repetitive at the moment but I still love Wednesday posts about reading and projects.  And I love heading over to see what everyone is up to over at small things

Yup, still knitting my mom's Irish hiking scarf.
Yup, still reading Organized Simplicity

I'm not feeling very inspired at the moment.  Although I did finish the book on Canadian history and really enjoyed that.  And not knit-related but I have the blocks ready to sew together for the first wedding gift quilt I have to finish before October.  Sorry, can't share those till after the joyous days because I know one bride-to-be reads here and I'm not sure about the other but she might.

There's a good chance I've hit a snag in Organized Simplicity.  So far I'm loving her suggestions for simplifying life.  She even breaks it down into 10 specific days to sort through and organized your home and make it into the home that will make you and your family happiest and most productive.  The concept to keep what is useful or beautiful is nothing new but a really good philosophy.  Trouble is we kinda live in a storage unit.  Not in a Hoarders kind of way but just that we are seriously lacking in storage space so it spills out of closets and into our living space.  And we were storing some things at a friend's but he is moving so we had to get it out of his basement and fit it into the apartment.  In a few weeks we're visiting family and hopefully be able to store, for the example, all the outgrown baby stuff in their attic.  That will help.  Big time.

The other trouble is her method.  I totally agree the best way to declutter and prioritize is to clear everything into a neutral spot and have to sort it all.  However the thought of taking everything out of our living room and putting it into the dining room to sort through it and clean with my two man wrecking crew little helpers does not seem practical in the slightest.  It will take me a lot longer than 10 days to go through all her suggestions since I'll have to wait for days DH can take the boys out while I work.

So I guess I'll do what I can because I do really like her philosophy.  And try again with the intense plan later.  Maybe when we pack to move?  ;-)  And start reading the last Harry Potter to get ready to see the movie.

I am intrigued by your wedding quilts to be. I hope you can find a balance with your decluttering. I hear you on the whole 'little helpers'. I often think books like these don't factor in your looking after children or still having to get dinner on the table multiple times a day. Let alone trying to move one room into another to sort through stuff. I'm sure all your hard work will pay off though. Jacinta x

Oh I would have a big problem of moving one room into another room to sort. I'd be tired and frustrated by the end of the sorting period that things would just get shoved back in the original room! Why not sort in the room they are destined for?

Good luck quilting. Can't wait until you can post pictures :)

Organizing is such a job! I'm with you with the idea behind these books being good but the implementation of the plan not so do-able.

I love decluttering but while we have some storage space I don't really have anywhere to store out of season clothing so they end up cluttering the back and bottoms of dresser and such. It does make simplifying a bit trickier...

Just do the best you can with the organizing.

I'm still knitting and reading the same stuff as last week, too. And I have that book on request from the local library. I will not, however, be moving stuff from one room to another, either. But I hope it will give me some good ideas for paring down and reorganizing!

i hope you figure it out. If it helps any, our apartment is tiny for the four of us and a dog, so we have the same problem. It's not even the STUFF... it's where to put what we do have! HUGS!

Decluttering and organizing seems to be a never ending task. Right now I'm on a huge decluttering mission as we are having a multi family yard sale next weekend. Good luck with your organizing.

Thanks for stopping by for a visit in blog land today.

Blessings, Elizabeth

I absolutely love cables and your scarf is lovely so far.
Just reading about moving everything into another room to sort made me feel exhausted. I understand, I have two littles and I can just imagine, being in the middle of the job and having my one year old decide that he had enough and needed my undivided attention. I get overwhelmed just thinking about it.
