Yarn Along

Yes, even on vacation I will post about books and yarn.  :)  How could I not, I love knitting and reading.  Check over with Ginny at small things to share yours and get some inspiration.

I'm actually not reading anything at the moment.  Shocking I know.  I had a book picked out to take and read while we are away but it was a library book and all the library books got returned before we left.  Someone didn't know it was on top of a pile to pack it or that I was going to pack it.  Then I spent the rest of the evening wandering through the apartment, trying to pick a book.  I couldn't decide so I packed my nook.  But I've only turned it on once and didn't even get a chance to read.  Oh well, I'll put a hold on the book again when we get back and get lots of knitting done now.

Because I do have lots of knitting going.  I cast on a new Baby Surprise Jacket before we left to work on in the car.  It's going to be so teeny - I've never worked with such tiny needles before!  But I really like working with girly colors for a change.  Then a good friend who I don't get to hang out with close to as much as I'd like to came over to help me knit my first hat.  Ok, so that "2- 4 hour project"  is going to end up taking me 4 days to complete but that's not my fault!  First of all my mom is way too much fun to talk with and we end up standing in the kitchen telling stories.  And secondly, the cats are totally taken with anything with wires or strings so knitting requires a team of defenders nearby to keep them from putting their teeth into it.  Last night Stella (a fluffy, gray 17lb beast of a kitty) pounced on my lap to swat at the BSJ while I was knitting.  Not cool, kitty, not cool.  Maybe today it will be warm and dry enough to sit outside and finish it :)

Lovely start to your BSJ! And I can totally relate to the chatting-while-knitting. I can usually knit up a baby hat in an afternoon, but sometimes the plan to knit while visiting with a friend or family members falls by the wayside because we're having too much fun to pay attention to the needles! :-)

It sounds like you are having so much fun on your vacation! Knitting while a cat attacks is a skill everyone should have!

The image of a team of defenders protecting you from the cats while you knit really made me laugh ;) Love the girly colours you're using for the BSJ.

I want to make a BSJ...I love the colors you are using for yours!

I realized on our vacation this year that I can't get much knitting done at all, because I want to chat & I can't do both at once...I either end up paying too much attention to the conversation & not enough to the pattern - or I end up trailing off in the conversation & leaving it hanging while I finish a row. Or six. I took several projects along on our trip to my parents' last month & knitted about two rows on one of them. I got a little bit more done last weekend at the beach... xo

Knitting with the cat is a fun experience. Mine grabs the thread out of the bag and runs to the other side of the room before I realize that she has her paws in the bag!!! So glad that you are having a good time with your Mom...I think she is the greatest!
