Process

The boys LOVE to paint.  They beg to paint.  They whine to paint.  They get all excited and jump up and down when I bring out the paints.

Yet they don't really paint.  They're not into making pretty things or pictures of things.

They get their hands into it and make as much mess as they can.  They smear it around.  They coat themselves in it.  And anything else they can reach.

But they so love it.

The rest will come, in time.

In the meantime I am working on remembering that it is about the process.  Obviously not the product.  (That really is half an apple he is painting so intently, in case you're wondering.)

The mess is worth it, right?

Yes, it is so worth it! I am not sure what the attraction is for kid's to paint, but all of mine have had it.

The mess is worth it—creativity is worth all the mess. Any mess. It's lovely that you allow them this freedom to explore and investigate the materials they create with. -heather

Wow you are a brave woman... I'm terrible, I let them paint pretty much only in the summer, outside, on their crappy play table... But at least your boys keep the paint off the table :D

Hi Kate, thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment. Like your style with the shirtless painting... must make the cleaning up process a bit quicker too! Looks like fun. Lucy xx

Hi, Kate. Here the paints are always like this too. So fun - but we (moms) need to be inspired to do it, right? Is there any really blank walls in your house? In my tiny apartment I don´t have anymore... :oP
