Yarn Along

This week it's kinda more a thread along.  I still don't have anything on the needles.  Well, I kinda started to cast on a wee BSJ but haven't even finished casting on.  And I'm still untangling those blue yarns.  It just hasn't been a week for handwork.  But I did finish the blocks for the quilt!  Now to find the time and clean floor needed to lay them out so I can get the top pieced.

The chaos of attempting to lay out the blocks on the bed.  Never quite works out.  But looks really cool, if you can get past the total chaos of it.  The WeatherMan has more than the usual number of night shifts coming up so I should have some evenings to myself this week to do the lay out, untangle the yarn, and at the very least finish casting on.  Maybe I can catch up this week and make up for last week's slacking.  In a moment of delusion optimism I even took Toe-Up 2-at-a-Time Socks out at the library.  I've only skimmed through it but it seems simple enough once you get the mechanics.  Famous last words, huh?

I love how bright the colors are.  And how quirky some of the prints are.

As for reading I was little more successful there this week.  I'm finishing One Thousand Gifts today.  Yes, there are times when making such statements are tempting fate and bringing on all kinds of craziness but I'm confident I really am finishing today - I'm in the last chapter.   I also finished Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and started The Chamber of Secrets this week.  I guess I just needed a light, fun read.  That and it had gotten to the end of the month and I still hadn't finished a book yet so I wanted to read something I could finish quick.  What can I say - I have a tendency toward product reading at times too.

Linking up this week with Ginny's Yarn Along and sharing my very s-l-o-w stash busting at Creating a Family Home and Crunchy Catholic Momma.  Some weeks if it weren't for the sharing I don't think I would accomplish anything.  Nothing like accountability and a little envy of what other bloggers are out there doing!

I have been tempted to read the same sock book since I knit socks from the cuff down, one at a time.

Don't you just love Ann'a book? I keep it by the bed so I can pick it up and read parts over again.

Happy Yarn Along.

I have to agree! Knowing that I want to post something for the yarn along always makes me keep going :-) Plus, I am starting to make progress on my list of knits for my family that I have been wanting to make, but had to put off due to the crazy christmas crafting :-)

I love your quirky prints! That piece with the house on it is great.

Good luck with piecing together. It's looking wonderful.

Love the gingham on the quilt, Kate. I'm a little envious about the socks. I've always been wanting to know how to knit socks but don't want to start one more thing....at least not yet!

A few years ago I bought the Toe up book when our local bookstore went out of business. I've looked at it many times but haven't been brave enough (nor had the patience) to sit and figure out how to do it. It'll probably be insanely easy & I'll be frustrated with myself for not trying it sooner! It'd be nice to have a pair of socks finished at once rather then needing to cast on again! Your quilt is coming out beautiful! I can't wait to see the finished product :-)

I can imagine that your boys would love to jump on that bed with all those fabric pieces. :) The quilts look nice. Some weeks, I can do lots of creative things and other weeks, zip. Nada. Just keep going! The sock book is something I need to look at again.

I made a quilt like the one you are making for my youngest son. He loved it. Laying it out was definitely a challenge especially because I started to overthink placement!

Two at a time is not bad at all once you get past the fiddly beginning. I like knitting socks in that manner because I often suffer from Second Sock Syndrome

I have read the HP books twice and I could read them again and again. I love 5,6, and 7 because they are more gritty!

I've knitted quite a few pairs of socks but always cuff down. Toe up is tempting, especially two at a time. I'd just use up the rest of the yarn making the socks as long as I want. I'm patchwork/quilting at the moment. Loving the colours.

I'm re-reading Goblet of Fire for the same reason...when there's nothing to read there is alway HP!

I've been in more of a sewing mood too and haven't gotten much knitting done this week.

You can do the socks...I know it! Looking forward to see the BSJ come along. Maybe it will finally inspire me to cast one on! :)

I hear ya, Kate.

There are some weeks where I feel like everyone who reads my post are thinking, "That book again?!"
