Mother's Day Recap

It might be tempting to complain about my Mother's Day.  Breakfast in bed?  Mani/pedi?  Flowers?  Jewelery?  Not my boys.

My day could be summed up by my preschooler sneezed on me.  In itself not worth mentioning.  Except that it followed a perhaps typical conversation with a three year old.

Boy: "I put a rock in my nose."
Mama: "WHAT?  WHEN?"
Boy: "Now.  I put a rock in my nose."
Daddy: "If you have a rock in your nose we have to take you to the hospital."
Boy: "What?"
Mama: "If you have a rock in your nose, we need to take you to the emergency room.  The doctor has to help get it out.  Did you put a rock in your nose?"
Boy: "No, no rock in my nose."

At which point Mama takes Boy, looks up his nose, feels his nose, turns him upside down to look up his nose better and discovers no rock.  Turning him right side up, Mama shields against coming sneeze.  Looking back and about to compliment Boy on his excellent covering of said sneeze notices a small, slimy, snotty pebble on the end of Boy's finger.  Guess that rock really did go up your nose, huh?

Later, my toddler was crabby with a capital C (which rhymes with T... no wait, that's another song.)  Clingy, whiny, demanding, all a mama's favorite characteristics.  After dinner and nursing Littler Boy proceeded to puke on Mama.  Nothing says "I love you, Mama.  Happy Mother's Day" like some good vomit.  I'll spare you the details but thankfully he felt better after that and calmed down a bit.

And yes, it could totally have been worse.  They both barfed on me on Christmas.

But here is the peace and joy from the day.  And I am going to cling to it, gosh darn it!  Bedtime has been a major struggle lately and I've taken to praying with them (because that sounds better than to say praying at them) and singing to them more than I ever have.  A favorite song at the moment is a favorite of mine from ye old camp days -

Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine,
I'll taste your strawberries, I'll drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
'Ere I forget all the joy that is mine today.

Oh, I'll be a dandy and I'll be a rover
You'll know who I am by the song that I sing
I'll feast at your table, I'll sleep in your clover
Who knows what tomorrow will bring.

Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine,
I'll taste your strawberries, I'll drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
'Ere I forget all the joy that is mine today.

I can't be contented with yesterday's glories
I can't live on promises, winter to spring
Today is my moment and now is my story
I'll laugh and I'll cry and I'll sing.

Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine,
I'll taste your strawberries, I'll drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
'Ere I forget all the joy that is mine today.

And the boys sing along :)
